The schoolhouse in Old Town is 36 years younger than our own Presbyterian Church of Sweet Hollow! San Diego is such a young town... :)

Pictures of Old Town

Thanks to Emmi's Dad's Marriott points, we stayed in a lovely Marriott Courtyard in Old Town overnight. These beautiful Birds of Paradise were in the front entrance.

Spectacular Flora

It was too gorgeous at the airport to stay inside, so we left and walked until we came to a little median with some plants and hardy grasses. This is a sample of what we enjoyed before we went inside and discovered we were stuck overnight...

We're Going Home...

We think. It's the last day of the conference and we're posing in front of the lectern from which everyone preached, prayed, taught. It has the gorgeous "But God Says..." logo hanging from it. We're excited to be heading home to share the Good News that we heard while here.

The View from our Balcony

One of the things that fascinated me most in San Diego is the very different flora. Here's the view from our balcony, which shows you this dichotomy of scrubby hills and wild looking palm trees. (Imagine: we're on the 6th floor. We are able to reach out and touch the palm tree in the foreground of the close-up shot. It's at least ten feet tall and swaying 3-4 feet back and forth during the wind storms we experienced. Freaky!)

Stuck in San Diego

Well, guess what... Because of storms in Dallas, TX, we were unable to fly away today and even with lots of begging and pleading on our knees, we couldn't get a flight back home until tomorrow. So, we're spending another night in San Diego. Now here's the good news - it was SUNNY AND WARM TODAY!!!!

I did yoga sun salutes and Em climbed a light pole in gratitude (outside the airport in a scrubby little esplanade that we found before we knew the bad cancelled flight news). We stayed at the Marriot in Old Town and were able to wander the streets and eat at a fabulous authentic Mexican restaurant (note that a picture of the Mariachi singers will be posted tomorrow when I can get it uploaded - as well as a photo of the oldest school house in San Diego, which is still 36 years younger than our dear Sweet Hollow and various others mostly of flora that we've been fascinated with while here).

It's been a frustrating day, but not without its high points. God in always in there somewhere :), even when we don't really see it...

A Night in Seaport Village

Representatives of the Synod of the Northeast (see me and Emmi in the back row on the right) have dinner together at the Harbor House. And here I am at The Crystal Palace, a shop that I worked in as a crystal engraver over 25 years ago - I can't believe it still exists!
